Blackheath Art Prize: our students scoop the pool!

Nicola Mason, 'Reflection at Everglades', oil on canvas, 2011

Congratulations are in order to four of our current students whose work has been recognised in the Blackheath Art Prize. Nicola Mason, who is studying the Certificate IV in Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft part-time, was awarded second prize by judges Mathew Lynn and Robert Malherbe. The judges comments on Nicola's work describe it as a 'quiet and intense picture, showing a well-known place in a completely different light. A moody, awkward composition that resolves itself wonderfully with a quiet drama."

Also recognised was Diploma of Fine Art student Marcela Vilaplana, whose inkjet print 'Emptiness 1' was Highly Commended. Fellow Diploma student Janet Reinhardt was Commended for her Untitled charcoal drawing, and evening student Mandy Schone-Salter was commended for a photographic diptych.

Congratulations to all the artists on their success.
